What is Stock Market Technical Analysis?

Technical analysis is a method of analyzing or evaluating stocks based on patterns and statistics. Technical analysists look at stock charts, prices, volumes, and indicators to determine buy and sell points. Many technicals are based on past stock price and/or volume history. Popular indicators include MACD, EMA, RSI, and various charting patterns.

Technical analysis differs from fundamental analysis. Technical analysts evaluate stocks on patterns, statistics, and TA indicators alone, and do not look at the balance sheet, income statement, or various other aspects of fundamental valuing. Fundamental analysts determine a company’s value based on balance sheets, cash flow, return on assets, EPS, ratios, and many other forms of data.
